Surfside Tragedy Emotional Relief Seminar - In-Person

This 1-day seminar is designed for anyone involved with supporting those in the Surfside community who have been affected by the tragedy. This includes pastors, business leaders, teachers, parents, first-responders, social service providers and more.

The event will include:

• Four teaching components:

  • What is Trauma? - educates participants on the dynamics of trauma, the normal responses to trauma, the effects and ramifications of unresolved trauma (such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

  • How to Recover from Trauma  - provides resources and suggestions for the path to healing. 

  • Caring for the Traumatized addresses how to recognize and manage trauma symptoms in others.

  • Self-care for the Caregiver will address vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and self-care remedies.   

• One therapeutic processing activity

• Several group discussions and activities to interact with the content

• Personal assessments for PTSD (PCL-5) and Compassion Fatigue/Satisfaction (Pro-QAL)

• Handouts and resource lists

• A morning and lunch break. Free break refreshments and lunch will be provided by the Church by the Sea for the in-person event.

• Free child-care (limited by first-come, first-served) will be provided by the Church by the Sea for the in-person event.
